Major Academic Plans (MAPs)
The information below and links on the right will help guide you through information about the programs offered at Heidelberg University. Major Academic Plans (or MAPs) are designed to help you plan completing your degree in four years. To complete your degree you will need to meet all requirements of your major as well as the prescribed general education curriculum. Sample MAPs by major and general education checklists can be found at the right. This information is published to serve as a guide. Students should consult the college catalog and their faculty advisor to ensure completion of all requirements.
Seeing Your Advisor
You will be assigned to an advisor your first semester at Heidelberg University. After completion of the semester you are welcome to select a new advisor if you wish. You are encouraged to work with a faculty advisor in your major. All students are encouraged to meet with their advisor prior to registration each semester. New, first-time college students and students on academic probation are required to meet with their advisor and obtain a registration PIN prior to registration.
Most students meet with their advisor during orientation. You should plan to meet with your advisor when you get to campus. Your assigned faculty advisor’s name can be found in OASIS2 in your student information menu under your student records.
Advisors can assist you in choosing classes that meet the needs of your chosen major. In addition, advisors are good mentors and offer valuable career information and experience. One of the many benefits of choosing a college with low student to faculty ratios is being able to build valuable relationships and begin the networking process in your chosen field.
Declaring/Changing Your Major
We understand that your career path may change during your experiences in college. Determining which of the exciting majors offered at Heidelberg to choose can be a tough decision. If you had an undeclared major upon arrival at Heidelberg or have chosen a new academic path to follow, you may declare or change your major at any time during your college experience. Change of major forms for declaring and/or changing majors can be obtained in the Office of the Registrar or on the Registrar’s website. Completed forms must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar indicating your choices for major(s) and/or minor(s).
