Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science (Liberal Arts degree with a Music Major)

Careers in Music

Heidelberg's Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Music is designed for students who have an interest in music but are looking for a variety of career choices. The liberal arts degree allows students the option to focus on music as their major or combine a major in music with a second major or minor.

Students can combine the study of instrumental, keyboard or vocal music with a variety of other disciplines, such as music and theatre, for those interested in musical theatre or music and media, or music and psychology for those interested in music therapy. Other possibilities for double majors include music and one of the sciences, music and business and music and history.

Majoring in music requires students to develop the critical thinking and organizational skills that employers value. Graduates of the program have gone on to successful careers in a number of fields in addition to music, including law and medicine, and have been accepted for graduate studies.

The Heidelberg Advantage

The Heidelberg Music Department has been educating musicians for more than 100 years and is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Our music faculty members are dedicated teachers as well as established musicians who continue to pursue performance, composition, and research opportunities. With a low student-to-faculty ratio, music students at Heidelberg benefit from personal attention and private lessons, which are availbale for no additional fees. Music scholarships are also offered to complement other forms of financial aid.
