Returning for his fourth year at the helm of the Heidelberg University women’s soccer team in 2009 is Nick Spell. Spell marks just the sixth head coach in the storied history of the program that is highlighted by a league-leading five Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season Championships and five tournament titles.
 
Since Spell took over the program in 2006, the team has seen marked improvements and has moved up in the win column every season. Three of his players have earned spots on the All-Ohio Athletic Conference list and seven received Academic All-OAC nods. Kasey Hill picked up the Clyde Lamb award for the Berg in 2006.
 
Prior to Heidelberg, Spell served as the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs at OAC member Marietta College. Marietta’s women’s team set a school record for wins with 12 in 2003, only to tie it a year later and eclipse that win total in 2005 with 14 victories.
 
Spell attended Marietta and played four years of varsity soccer. He served as team captain and was the Pioneer’s Most Valuable Player in both 2002 and 2003. Spell completed his undergraduate studies in the spring of 2003 with a bachelor of arts in marketing. In the spring of 2005, he also received his masters of education from his alma mater.
 
Spell is both a Advanced National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and United States Soccer Federation (USSF) "D" licensed coach, and in addition to his collegiate coaching experiences, is well versed in southeastern Ohio's club soccer. Spell is active with the River Valley Soccer Club (RVSC), coaching an under-15 boys as well as an under-11 and under-12 girl’s team out of Parkersburg, W.Va.
 
Spell currently resides in Tiffin, Ohio. 

Samantha Klopfer

 In her second season on the Heidelberg University women’s soccer coaching staff is Samantha Klopfer. Klopfer assists will all facets of the program.
 
Klopfer joined the Berg following a successful career at Capital University. She was a two-year captain at Capital, where she earned First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference twice as a forward and Second Team All-OAC twice for defense.
 
Previously, Klopfer has coached the Canal Winchester CW Pride U12 girls and worked as a conditioning coach for the U15 girls.
 
Klopfer, a Vandalia, Ohio native, received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and psychology from Capital in 2007 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education from the Berg.
