After passing last week's on-site inspection, Stoner Health Center continues to wait for notification about servging as a site for administration of th eH1N1 vaccine.
____
Symptoms of H1N1 virus include fever (above 100 degrees), body aches, fatigue, sore throat, runny nose, diarrhea and nausea and vomiting. Students who experience these symptoms should report to the health center in Campus Center Room 141 when the center is open. Employees need to be followed by their primary care physician for diagnosis and treatment. A vaccine is currently being developed and is expected to be released in the fall.
Additionally, the following precautions will be helpful:
-
Remember to wash your hands frequently as this habit remains the best defense against the spread of infection.
-
Carry an alcohol-based hand cleanser (e.g. Purell) with you at all times and use when washing facilities are not handy or available.
-
Always cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough.
-
When you are sick, stay home. In the case of a student, go home. If going home is impossible because of distance, confine yourself to your room and stay away from others.
A plan for the campus H1N1 virus response is currently being developed. The university continues to be in contact with the Seneca County Department of Health as new information and updates regarding the virus are received. Updates will be posted on the Heidelberg home page.
