Presidential Search

SUBJECT: Presidential Search: Launched and promising

DATE: September 25, 2008

We are writing to tell you that as the October 6 deadline approaches (this is the date by which we assure full consideration for all received applications), we continue to be pleased about the strength and the depth of the pool. Our search consultant, Susan Resneck Pierce, tells us that she is continuing to hear from and talk with prospective candidates who are impressed with the opportunities that Heidelberg offers.

Because of confidentiality, we cannot share details of the pool with you, but the search is on schedule. The next step: the search committee will meet sometime in October to narrow the pool to probably 8-10 semi-finalists whom we will then interview at an off-campus site. We will also check references at that point.

Since this part of the process is time-consuming, we probably will not have anything new to share with you in the near future.

Selecting our next president is an important responsibility. I am delighted that each of my colleagues on the search committee is approaching this responsibility with a good deal of time, energy and thoughtfulness.
