What does it mean to be Greek?

  • The term "Greek" comes from the Greek letters that represent a group. 
  • Heidelberg has 4 active sororities and 4 active fraternities.
  • Oldest Greek Group was founded in 1851 (Excelsior Society) and the most recent is Rho Eta Delta, formed in 2007.  The other three active fraternities are Alpha Phi Tau, Sigma Tau Nu, and Nu Sigma Alpha.
  • The four sororities are Kappa Psi Omega, The Euglossian Society, The Philalethean Society, and Delta Sigma Chi.
  • All fraternities and sororities are considered local, which has many benefits including lower dues.
  • As a Greek, you have the opportunity to participate in community service, group social events, and are able to be a part of an everlasting brotherhood/ sisterhood.
  • More than 20% of campus is involved in Greek life.
  • Those involved in Greek life have an overall higher cumulative GPA than those not involved.
