Student Awards Celebration 2009

The 2009 Student Awards Celebration was held Friday April 24, 2009. 

Advisor of the Year: Dr. Samira Risheg

Honoring a faculty or staff advisor who provides outstanding support and guidance to help a student group achieve its desired goals. This individual consistently goes above the call of duty to support and improve the out-of-class experience of our students.


Cooperative Learning Community of the Year Award: F.R.O.G.S. and H.O.G.S.

This award was created by the Campus House Council to recognize an outstanding project created by a Cooperative Learning Community (CLC). A CLC nominated for this award should have established a positive reputation for their CLC both on- and off-campus. The CLC should have enhanced the Heidelberg community by offering programs and activities that positively contributed to campus life. Participants in the programs or activities should include individuals not living in the CLC. Finally, the CLC should communicate positively with the Office of Residence Life and their advisor.
 

Harold Hafer & Janet Hughes Unsung Hero Award: Michael Sooy

Created to recognize a person (or persons) who has made a significant difference in the life of a student (or students) at Heidelberg University, this award is designed to honor an individual (or group) on- or off-campus who is generous of heart and has extended her/himself to positively impact the lives of our students.

Leader on the Horizon: Deven Siesel

Honors a first or second year student who has shown great potential in providing leadership on the Heidelberg campus.

Lewis E. Miller International Ambassador Award: Nathan Prunty

Annually awarded to a student who exemplifies the promotion of goodwill and harmony on campus and in the Tiffin community. This person should exemplify qualities of an ambassador between international and non- international students attending Heidelberg University.

Outstanding Greek Man of the Year: Dennis LoConti

This award is presented to an individual member of one of the five IFC Greek organizations who has demonstrated a commitment to address student concerns and needs and, during the past year, has given of his time and talents to improve student life at Heidelberg

Outstanding Greek Woman of the Year: Amanda Franz

This award is presented to an individual member of one of the four ISC Greek organizations who has demonstrated a commitment to address student concerns and needs and, during the past year, has given of her time and talents to improve student life at Heidelberg University.

Outstanding Resident Assistant Award: Christopher Washko

This award honors a current RA who has excelled and embraced the fundamental purposes of the RA position and the function of the Residence Life program. Attributes might include attentiveness and responsiveness to the personal development of students, development of a strong floor community, and support of fellow RAs. This person is seen as an accessible and visible person in the halls and one who is a credible and positive role model for all students. 


Outstanding Student Employee of the Year: Christopher Lawrence

Awarded to a student employee who takes initiative, shows a high level of responsibility and is highly accountable for his/her actions.

Outstanding Student Organization: College Democrats

Presented to the officially registered student organization that has consistently demonstrated outstanding service to its members and the campus. Any member of the campus community may nominate their own or another organization (excluding IRHC, BEC, and Student Senate) by describing the following: 1) Goals set and accomplished; 2) Any special programs benefiting the Heidelberg and/or Tiffin community; 3) Any newly developed programs; and, 4) Why the group should be considered for the award. All answers should reflect accomplishments during the 2007-2008 academic year. Any nominees must be properly registered with the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development and Student Senate.


Student Leader for Diversity Award: Megan Morris

This award is presented to an individual student who has demonstrated a significantly positive attitude towards campus diversity in all its forms and has encouraged and worked towards improving the understanding of diversity issues on the Heidelberg University campus. 


The Model Program Award: Ethnic Dinner

This award recognizes significant achievements in the planning and presentation of programs, either a one-time event or a series of events marketed as a single program. The program(s) must have occurred between August, 2008 and March, 2009. Important elements of the program might include evidence of co-sponsorship, attracting a diverse audience, and effective evaluation.

The Robert E. Oleson Outstanding Student Leader Award: Keenan Jones

This award recognizes a senior who has excelled in all aspects of leadership on our campus. The student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and exemplify continuous leadership development and service to the Heidelberg University community. This person is recognized as the best all-around leader among the senior class.
